Is this the Time for a High Efficiency Air Conditioner?

energy efficient air conditioningAs the Labor Day weekend approaches marking the traditional end of summer, it puts behind us one of the hotter summers in memory. As we have all experienced this exceptionally hot weather, we remember how important it is to have an air conditioner that runs well.

We have also seen our electric bills over the past few months and the cost of having an older, inefficient A/C unit.  These bills remind us that we, not only need an air conditioner that runs well, but also efficiently.

Upgrading Can Offer Some Great Benefits
The benefits of having a more efficient air conditioner are significant.

  • Lower Utility Bills
Replacing your old, inefficient heating and cooling system with a high efficiency model could save you at least $115-$200 annually. In addition there are federal tax credits that are available that can be applied to the original purchase.
  • Requires Far Less Maintenance
Newer units shouldn’t break down, come with warranties, and have greater product life.
  • Your Home Will Be More Comfortable
A higher efficiency system will provide more even cooling, better controlled, constant temperatures, and air flow that is consistent.
  • Better for the Environment
Any new high efficiency air conditioner will use an environmentally-friendly refrigerant like R410a.
  • Increases Value of Your Home
If you want to resell your home quickly for the best price possible, an upgraded heating and cooling system is a giant plus.

SEER Rating tagThe Higher the SEER Rating the Better
The efficiency of air conditioners is measured by their SEER ratings. Higher SEER ratings equate to higher efficiency units. In general, air conditioners with higher SEER ratings are more expensive than units with lower SEER ratings. However, it’s less expensive to operate an air conditioner with a higher SEER rating, which will save you money over the lifetime of the unit.

When choosing a new air conditioner, pick one with the highest SEER rating within your budget and take advantage of the many benefits that come with having a “high-efficiency” air conditioner.
